Washington, D.C. — Today, Latino Victory Project President and CEO Nathalie Rayes issued a statement in honor of Black History Month:
“Latino Victory Project is proud to honor the history, resilience and leadership of Black communities this Black History Month and every day of the year. Black Americans have paved the way in the fight for equity and justice and have made invaluable contributions in politics, sciences, the arts, and every sector of our society. At a time when many Republican elected officials across the country are working to erase some of the most painful moments in our nation’s history, it’s more important than ever to speak up and do our part to protect and uplift Black American history. We must stand up and acknowledge that Black American history is American history.
“We honor the contributions of the leaders of the past, and we must uplift the stories of the Black leaders, including Afro-Latinos, of today who continue fighting to protect voting rights, economic justice, and against the scourge of police brutality. Their fight is the fight for all in this country who want to live in a democracy that is inclusive and democratic–and we must strive today and every day to create a history that honors the Black American story.”
