Washington, D.C. – Today marks one year since the El Paso community suffered a domestic terror attack by a white supremacist that claimed the lives of 23 people and injured nearly two dozen more, the deadliest anti-Latino attack in modern American history. Nathalie Rayes, Latino Victory Project president & CEO, issued the following statement:
“The attack against the El Paso community was an attack against Latinos everywhere. Our hearts still mourn for the 23 lives lost, their families and friends, and an entire community stunned with grief. While the pain was unbearable, El Pasoans faced the attack with strength, resilience, and love. They showed us that a community as tight-knit as El Paso could rise above hate and violence with courage and unity.
“As we pay our respects to the lives lost, we must also make sure that this never happens again. Our government representatives have the power to protect our lives, which means passing meaningful gun violence prevention legislation and denouncing anti-Latino rhetoric. Latino Victory stands with the El Paso community and will work to ensure that elected officials are held accountable by Latino voters in November.”
