Washington, D.C. – On Women’s International Day, Latino Victory Project President & CEO Nathalie Rayes issued the following statement:
“If we learned anything after one year of surviving a pandemic, it’s that women are the backbone of society. As our country locked down, women became teachers at home, caretakers, held the line as frontline workers, and worked endless shifts at hospitals and factories. And yet, women, especially Latinas, were also the most heavily impacted by the pandemic, suffering job losses at disproportionate rates and an alarming domestic violence surge. This International Women’s Day, the United States’ elected officials at all government levels must commit to safeguarding women’s economic status and safety, ensuring that they’re able to reintegrate into the workforce, and rescue years of work to advance women’s rights.
“Today and every day of the year, we stand in solidarity with women across the world who fight for women’s equality. To our sisters in Latin America who are battling systems that oppress and silence, we see you and hear you, and we stand by your resilience and perseverance.”
