[WASHINGTON]—Today, the White House announced the nomination of Mayor Julián Castro for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. The Latino Victory Project congratulated the Administration on working to create a cabinet that reflects the changing demographics in our country with this announcement.

As mayor of San Antonio, the 7th largest city in America, Mayor Castro transformed San Antonio, revitalizing the city’s urban core and investing in its people through education, economic development and enhanced health services.
o He spearheaded creation of the Inner City Reinvestment Infill Policy and the Inner City Incentive Fund, stimulating development and investment in downtown neighborhoods.
o Under his administration, the City incentivized 17 new housing projects within the downtown area, representing 2,737 housing units for a total local investment of $384 million.
o In education, he successfully passed a sales tax increase to fund universal pre-K for all residents of San Antonio.
