(Washington, D.C) – Today, the Latino Victory Project presented testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of President Obama’s recent executive action on immigration. A Hart Research poll shows that a majority of likely 2016 voters support the key initiatives put forward by President Obama.
“The Latino Victory Project fully believes that President Obama’s executive actions are a first step. What we need is comprehensive reform with a pathway to citizenship for many families tired of waiting on the sidelines. We appreciate the hard work from both Senate Republicans and Democrats that ultimately led to the passage of the sensible immigration bill, S. 744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act. With the backing of the President and Senators from both sides of the aisle, the time has come for House leadership to bring a vote on immigration reform that can ultimately transform the lives of millions in our Latino communities,” said Cristóbal Alex, President of the Latino Victory Project.
Latino voters are energized by the topic of immigration. In a recent poll of Latino voters sponsored by the Latino Victory Project and several other national organizations, 67 percent of voters said that immigration was either the most important issue or one of the most important issues in their decision to vote.
