Latino Victory statement on Supreme Court Decision to end TPS for Venezuelans

Latino Victory strongly condemns the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the Trump administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nearly 350,000 Venezuelans, putting countless lives at risk and fueling a dangerous escalation of anti-immigrant policy.

“This is a shameful moment for our country,” said Katharine Pichardo-Erskine, President & CEO of Latino Victory. “Stripping TPS from Venezuelans, many of whom fled political persecution in addition to the humanitarian crisis, is not only cruel, it’s a betrayal of America’s values. These are our neighbors, our coworkers, and our family members. Every generation of refugees before them was received in the spirit of the words penned by Emma Lazarus: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…”, which are memorialized in the Statue of Liberty. We cannot abandon our values now.

“TPS has provided life-saving protection for Venezuelans escaping dictatorship, violence, and economic collapse. The Supreme Court’s decision, issued without explanation, greenlights a mass deportation agenda that undermines legal safeguards and tears families apart. We stand in solidarity with the Venezuelan community, and we will continue to fight for their right to live with dignity and security in the United States. Latino Victory calls on Congress to immediately provide permanent protections for TPS holders and urges the administration to explore all available legal and executive remedies. We will not be silent while their futures are put in jeopardy.”
