Republicans’ White Supremacist Plan to Diminish Latino Political Power Exposed

President’s Trump’s decision to add a citizenship question is a scheme to disenfranchise Latinos

Washington, D.C. Recent documents have confirmed what we’ve known all along. The real reason why behind President Trump and the Republicans are adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census: to further their white supremacist agenda by disenfranchising Latinos.

“We’ve said all along that adding a citizenship question to the 2020 Census was a part of the Republican Party’s concerted efforts to disenfranchise Latinos and communities of color, and this latest disturbing report confirms our worst fears,” said Latino Victory Interim President Melissa Mark-Viverito. “It is deplorable and terrifying that President Trump and the Republicans are using the Census as a vehicle to further their white supremacist agenda by diminishing Latino political power. Congress must do everything in their power to stop this administration from adding the citizenship question to the Census. Getting their way with this will be detrimental for the Latino community and our democracy.

Mark-Viverito added, “Latino Victory Fund will continue fighting against these racist Republican attacks against our community, and we will not be deterred from electing Latino candidates to build political power at every level of government.”
