Dr. Sanjuanita “Sanjie” Garza-Cox

Dr. Sanjuanita “Sanjie” Garza-Cox is a Perinatal-Neonatal Medicine specialist in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated with a degree in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Health Science Center at San Antonio.  She completed her Pediatric Residency and Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship at The University of Texas Medical Branch.  

She has twenty years of experience in Neonatology with dedicated training and expertise in Medical Simulation, Child Death Review and Prevention, Palliative Care, Women’s Health and Clinician Burnout Prevention. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine San Antonio and an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine.  

In 2015, Dr. Garza-Cox co-founded Baby Education for South Texas – B.E.S.T., a nonprofit organization focused on family education and accidental death prevention in South Texas, a community with a large minority population. She has since become a leading expert and community advocate in accidental infant death and education. She is currently appointed as member of the Texas Child Fatality Review Team Committee; which goal is to reduce the number of preventable child deaths by providing evidence-based recommendations for legislation and policy improvements to the Governor and State Legislature. In 2013, she was appointed by San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro to serve in the SA 2020 Commission on Strengthening Family and Well-Being. 

In addition to her private neonatal practice, she has served a wide breadth of leadership roles within her medical practice and national company. She is dedicated to community outreach, student mentorship, health education and advocacy and provides philanthropic support to a diverse group of charitable causes. She currently an active member of various boards, such as Komen San Antonio, San Antonio Pediatric Society (President- Elect), Bexar County Child Fatality Review Board and the Fetal Infant Mortality Review Board. She also has experience working with and promoting local, state and federal election candidates.
