“Today, we are all El Paso” Latino Victory Project Statement on the El Paso Shooting 5-Year Mark

Washington, D.C.—On the day marking the 5th year since the shooting in El Paso that took the lives of 23 and injured 22, Latino Victory Project President & CEO Sindy M. Benavides issued the following statement:

“Our hearts are with the El Paso community, who five years ago endured the unimaginable pain of losing family, loved ones and neighbors. On that day, we learned of El Paso’s resilience through the stories of heroes, helpers, and survivors, and the miracle of their courage and faith as they faced their darkest day. May the family and friends of those we lost find comfort and peace. Today, we are all El Paso.

“While we honor and remember the lives lost in El Paso, we must expand our solidarity beyond words. It’s time we take action and demand change to ensure a shooting like El Paso never happens again. Latinos are among the most affected by gun violence, and we have the power to elect candidates who will support common-sense gun violence prevention policies. Our families, our friends and our neighbors deserve to live free from fear and violence.”
