Washington, D.C. – Today President Trump nominated Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Read Latino Victory Fund President Cristobal J. Alex’s statement in response below:
“The EPA’s mission is to protect our communities’ health and our environment, unfortunately Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt has a record of fighting against the agency’s mission in favor of special interests – fighting clean air protections, opposing climate policies, and prioritizing profits over the health and well-being of Americans. America deserves an EPA Administrator who serves the people and works to tackle the environmental challenges ahead of us, and quite simply, Pruitt is unfit and unprepared to carry out the immense responsibilities that EPA administrators hold.
“Environmental issues are personal and top of mind for Latinos. Millions of Latinos live in a handful states on the front lines of climate change impact, half of all U.S. Latinos live in the country’s most polluted cities, and Latino children are more likely to die from asthma than non-Latino whites.
“Ninety-four percent of Latino voters agree that protecting our land and water is a priority in order to safeguard our families, our community, and leave a safe environment for our children, and 9 in 10 Latinos support action on climate change. Latino Victory will continue fighting for efforts to reduce air, water, and climate pollution, and we will keep supporting policies that create good paying clean energy jobs.”
