Washington, D.C. — As vote by mail ballots begin to arrive at the homes of registered voters in Oregon, Latino Victory Project President Cristóbal Alex today urged Latinos across the state to make sure their voices are heard on Election Day.
“Oregon’s vote by mail system is one of the easiest and most effective ways to cast your ballot in this country,” said Alex. “With so many critical issues up for debate this year, it is imperative that Latinos across the state are represented on Election Day. If you’ve received your ballot already, take a moment to vote, send it back, and stand up for our community.”
A 2012 Pew report notes that there are 146,000 Hispanic eligible voters in Oregon, making it the 21st largest Hispanic eligible voter population nationally.
According to the Oregon Secretary of State, since adopting vote by mail, Oregon consistently ranks as one of the national leaders in voter turnout. Registered voters receive a ballot two to three weeks before the election and also receive a security envelope to return their complete ballot. To return the ballot, stamp the envelope or drop it off in any official drop box across the state before 8PM on Election Day, November 4, 2014.
