Latino Victory Fund Announces Honorary Co-Chairs Congressman Joaquin Castro, NY Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa

Washington, DC – Super PAC Latino Victory Fund is proud to announce our first three honorary co-chairs: New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Congressman Joaquin Castro.

Cristóbal J. Alex, President of Latino Victory Fund said, “Latinos make up 17 percent of the population, but only one percent of all elected officials. We are excited to have Speaker Mark-Viverito, Mayor Villaraigosa and Congressman Castro join Latino Victory Fund as honorary co-chairs to help increase the number of Latino elected officials. These three outstanding Latino leaders have been at the forefront in empowering and fighting for the Hispanic community, and have led the charge on supporting issues that are important to our families.

“Latino Victory Fund will vigorously support and endorse Latino candidates up and down the ballot who stand for issues that our community cares about – immigration reform, quality education, good jobs, a fair wage, a clean environment and opportunity for all – and we will aggressively fight against those that don’t reflect our values. Speaker Mark-Viverito, Mayor Villaraigosa, and Congressman Castro will be pivotal in helping us achieve our goal of increasing Latino participation and representation.”

The Honorable Joaquín Castro said, “There is no right more fundamental than the right to vote. Assuring that government, at every level, is more representative of its people is something we should always aspire to as a nation. I am proud to be part of Latino Victory Fund’s effort to increase Latino representation across all levels of government.”

New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito said, “Latino voices need to be heard loud and clear during our elections and thanks to Latino Victory Fund they will be. Latino Victory Fund will be important as we work to increase Latino representation at all levels of government and push for crucial policies like immigration and criminal justice reforms, combating climate change and fighting for an economy that uplifts and benefits everyone. I am proud to join two incredible leaders in Congressman Joaquin Castro and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa as we work to ensure our community is represented. Latino votes should not be taken for granted, and I am excited to get to work.”

Former Los Angeles Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa said, “I am honored to be an honorary co-chair of Latino Victory Fund. Latinos have the power to shape our own future; we must own that power and use it wisely – to elect candidates that reflect our values and fight back against those that are looking to scapegoat our communities. I look forward to working with LVF to foster a pipeline of Latino donors and Latino leaders who will fight for our families throughout the country.”
