Latino Victory Fund Backs Joseph Alfonso in Bid for Key Seat for Latinos and Democrats in Congress

Alfonso would be the first Latino elected to Congress in Michigan

An Alfonso win would flip the 4th District from red to blue and help Democrats build a majority in Congress

Washington, D.C.—Latino Victory Fund, an influential national Latino political organization that works to increase Latino representation, announced it is backing Joseph Alfonso to represent Michigan’s 4th Congressional District. The race would have significant implications for Latinos and Democrats in Michigan and Congress—Alfonso would be the first Latino elected to Congress in Michigan and Democrats would gain one more seat in the U.S. House, bringing Democrats closer to a House majority.

Sindy M. Benavides, Latino Victory Fund President & CEO, issued the following statement:

“With working-class and immigrant roots, and a career in public service, Joseph is the best candidate to fight for Michiganders in Congress. He understands working families’ struggles and has a level of understanding that is key to finding common-sense solutions to building economic opportunities for our communities. Joseph’s priorities represent West Michigan’s working families and just as he’s fought for our country, he’ll fight in Congress to bring back jobs to Michigan, protect healthcare rights and keep communities safe from toxic chemicals. A win for Joseph will shatter a glass ceiling for Latinos in Michigan, serve as a win for Democrats by flipping the 4th District from red to blue, and give its residents a representative who will put forth legislation with their interests in mind. Latino Victory Fund is proud to support Joseph Alfonso for Congress because he’s running a race that will pave the way for more Latino elected officials in Michigan and in Congress.”
