Latino Victory Fund Congratulates Congressman Gabe Vasquez and Cindy Nava on Winning Primary Elections

Washington, D.C.—Latino Victory Fund congratulates Congressman Gabe Vasquez, NM-02, and Cindy Nava, candidate for State Senate District 9, on winning their races in New Mexico’s primary election.

If elected in the general election, Nava would become the first Latina in the district and the first formerly undocumented person in the New Mexico Legislature.

Statement from Sindy M. Benavides, Latino Victory Fund President & CEO on U.S. Rep. Gabe Vasquez:

“Congressman Vasquez’s win in the general election will be a boost for Democrats in Congress. He’s proven himself as a legislator and a fierce advocate for the people of New Mexico and all Latinos across the country. Since being elected, he’s advocated for the issues that voters in New Mexico care about—including access to affordable health care, environmental protections and land conservation, immigration reform and protecting reproductive freedom. Congressman Vasquez’s focus on these key issues, his dedication to his community and public servant’s heart are the reasons voters sent him to Congress and the reasons he will be re-elected in November. Latino Victory Fund is proud to congratulate Congressman Vasquez on advancing to the general, and we look forward to working tirelessly to ensure he keeps this competitive congressional seat blue.”

Statement from Sindy M. Benavides, Latino Victory Fund President & CEO, on Cindy Nava:

“Cindy’s one step closer to making history as the first Latina to represent Senate District 9 and as the first formerly undocumented person to serve in the New Mexico Legislature. Her win in November would be a milestone and an inspiration for Latinos, immigrants and undocumented persons who came to this country in search of a better life. Cindy is a dedicated community leader who has worked to improve the lives of New Mexico’s working families. Her focus on improving the state’s education system will ensure New Mexico students can achieve their American Dream and strengthen economic opportunity and mobility for future generations. Her policy priorities will vastly improve New Mexicans’ quality of life — including access to quality education, affordable housing, and quality, affordable healthcare. Latino Victory is proud to congratulate Cindy Nava on her important win and we look forward to continuing our support to ensure she wins this historic race in November.”
