WASHINGTON – Today, Latino Victory Fund announced their endorsement of Eliazar Posada for Carrboro Town Council. After winning a special election last year, Eliazar became the first openly LGBTQ Latino elected in North Carolina. He also currently serves as the Organizing Director of Equality NC, the oldest statewide organization in the country dedicated to securing rights and protections for the LGBTQ community.
Latino Victory Fund Executive Director Sindy Benavides released the following statement:
“Latino Victory Fund is proud to stand with Councilman Eliazar Posada on his reelection campaign for Carrboro Town Council. As a longtime grassroots organizer and advocate for low income, LGBTQ, and undocumented communities, Eliazar brings with him years of experience fighting for affordable in-state tuition, nondiscrimination laws, and voting rights. The son of immigrants, Eliazar understands the importance of empowering his community, and has received numerous awards for his service including the 2021 Frida Kahlo Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2021 Latino Diamante Latino Advocate Award. If re-elected, Elizar will continue to prioritize affordable housing, equitable public transit, and ensure that the decisions made by the Carrboro Town Council are a reflection of the entire community. Latino Victory Fund is excited to support Councilman Posada in his campaign to be re-elected so he can continue to make Carrboro a home for all.”
