Gallego would be the first Latino to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate
Washington, D.C.—Latino Victory Fund, a national Latino organization dedicated to increasing Latino representation at all levels of government, announced that it is endorsing Arizona Congressman Ruben Gallego for U.S. Senate.
If elected, Gallego would be the first Latino to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate. A win for Gallego would increase the Latino bench of representation in Congress, and it would break a barrier for Latinos in a state where they represent 33 percent of the population.
“Congressman Gallego’s race is historic for Latinos in Arizona and across the country. Electing the first Latino U.S. Senator to represent Arizona will not only increase Latino representation but having a candidate of Congressman Gallego’s caliber will help mobilize Latino voters in a high-stakes presidential election,” said Sindy M. Benavides, Latino Victory Fund President & CEO. “Congressman Gallego is a top-notch candidate who has earned his stripes, not just on the battlefield as a U.S. Marine, but also as a community organizer and state legislator fighting for working families. His tireless efforts in Congress to advocate for opportunities and economic mobility for our communities reflect his passion for ensuring the American Dream still works for everyone and that economic success is not only for the rich and powerful.”
Benavides added, “Arizonans know that with Congressman Gallego in the Senate, they will have a relentless voice advocating for their families and community. His top priorities reflect Arizonans’ priorities, including increasing jobs and strengthening the economy, expanding access to affordable health care, fair and humane immigration reform, and protecting reproductive freedom. Latino Victory Fund is proud to stand with Ruben Gallego in this historic race that will empower Arizona’s voice in the Senate and break a barrier in Arizona’s political landscape for its powerful Latino community.”
“As a longtime member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the former Chair of BOLD Pac, I’ve experienced firsthand how crucial it is to expand Latino representation in Congress, in the U.S. Senate, and beyond,” said Congressman Gallego. “I am honored to receive the endorsement of Latino Victory Fund, a longtime partner in pursuit of that crucial mission. Arizona has never had a Latino Senator — I am going to change that. I look forward to working with LVF to get the job done and continue building a better future for all Arizonans in the U.S. Senate.”
