If elected, he would be the first Latino to represent Nebraska in congress.

- Tony Vargas is a former public school teacher and first generation graduate from the University of Rochester. He received a Master of Science in education from Pace University.
- Vargas was appointed to the Omaha Public School Board in 2013.
- In 2016, Tony Vargas became the first outright elected Hispanic legislator in Nebraska.
- Vargas won the Democratic nomination for Neraska’s 2nd Congressional district in 2022.
