Washington, D.C.—Latino Victory Fund President & CEO Sindy M. Benavides issued the following statement on SCOTUS’ decision on Trump’s immunity case:
“Nearly four years after Trump tried to destroy our democracy, he continues to evade accountability. More importantly, today’s Supreme Court decision sets a deeply alarming precedent: By shielding Trump from prosecution for “official acts” – even if those acts broke the law and endangered our democracy – the Court is signaling a green light to constitutional abuses that threaten the very fabric of our country.
This decision underscores why the 2024 elections for president and Congress are critically important. Our democracy’s survival is on the ballot.
The Supreme Court may have spoken today, but voters will get the final word. If the MAGA-majority Supreme Court won’t defend our democracy, it’s up to voters to step up and vote for Democrats in November. Latino Victory will work hard to mobilize our communities ahead of Election Day.”
