WASHINGTON – Today, Latino Victory reflects on the one year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn a 50-year precedent of abortion access in their rule on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
Latino Victory Project Executive Director Sindy Benavides released the following statement:
“One year ago, Americans woke up to the long-anticipated and deeply-horrifying news that access to reproductive rights had reverted back to a time before Roe, overturning 50-years of precedent in this country. Throughout this year, people with reproductive organs have had their health, bodies and lives on the line. Latinas and people of color bear the brunt of the Supreme Court’s decision. Latinas are the largest group affected, with 6.7 million living in a state that has banned, or will likely ban, abortions. Meanwhile, Americans broadly support the right to choose, with a record high 69% who say abortion should be legal. This one year anniversary should not pass in vain. Instead, it should mobilize us into action and ensure we fight for policies that support and codify the right to choose. Latino Victory Project is committed to making that happen by recruiting and supporting elected leaders at all government levels who will safeguard reproductive health care. We proudly stand with our partners and allies in the reproductive rights movement fighting to expand abortion access to millions across the country.”
