Latino Victory Project to Conduct Candidate Trainings in Key Swing States of Michigan and Georgia

Latino Victory Project Continues its Path to Victory series to help candidates learn the ins and outs of running for office. The candidates receive strategic advice, training, and concrete instruction on how to deploy campaigns.

WASHINGTON – Today, Latino Victory Project announced that it will conduct candidate trainings in Detroit, Michigan (June 21-22) and Atlanta, Georgia (June 28-29), in conjunction with the National Democratic Training Committee and ActBlue, and with financial support from Google.

The non-partisan trainings are part of Latino Victory’s Path to Victory program, which prepares candidates and potential candidates to run for office. The initiative was launched as Latino Victory, the most influential national organization helping to build political power within the Latino community at every level of government, gears up to play a pivotal role in the 2024 Presidential Election.

“We know that when Latinos run for office, it helps to make our democracy more representative and helps increase Latino voter turnout for candidates up and down the ballot,” said Katharine Pichardo-Erskine, Executive Director of the Latino Victory Project. “Path to Victory helps to remove obstacles and address the challenges that hold Latino candidates back. The fact that national partners are actively participating in our efforts to bring Latinos into the democratic process is a testament to Latino Victory’s efforts to build strong partnerships and commitment to advance our communities’ participation in elections.”

As part of the training program, prospective candidates and staffers learn about setting up campaign operations, recruiting and managing staff and volunteers, fundraising, messaging and communications, compliance and ethics, and other key elements of running a successful campaign.

In addition to financially supporting the Path to Victory initiative, Google will participate in the training, contributing crucial technical expertise that will benefit candidates and equip them with information about Artificial Intelligence (AI), increasing cybersecurity during the election season, and other tools that can be used to strengthen campaign operations and expand impact and reach.

ActBlue, the powerful online fundraising platform, is supporting both the Path to Victory trainings as well as Afro Latinas Lead, a comprehensive strategic initiative by Latino Victory under the First Latinas program umbrella, that focuses on addressing the barriers to electing the first Afro Latina to Congress and building a pipeline of Afro Latina elected officials at all levels of government.

Pichardo-Erskine added that “Latino Victory Project is committed to bringing Path to Victory and similar initiatives to states across the country as part of its efforts to boost turnout and generate enthusiasm in the 2024 election. While doing so, Latino Victory Project will continue to build the Latino political leadership pipeline by recruiting and training potential candidates and supporting them to run for office up and down the ballot.”

In 2023, Latino Victory trained almost 100 candidates in Texas, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida and Arizona. This year, we are again partnering with the National Democratic Training Committee and local organizations to bring the best candidate trainings yet to other states, with financial support from Google and ActBlue.

The programs address Latino under-representation in elected office. Nationally, Latinos represent 20% of the U.S. population but only 2% of the elected positions.
