Washington, D.C. — Latino Victory Project Executive Director Mayra Macías issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court decision to allow one of the most extreme measures by the Trump administration to stand, which bans low-income immigrants from legally entering the country:
“To think that the highest court would even consider siding with Trump’s administration on a case that is rooted in white supremacy is unfathomable. The United States Supreme Court will forever be tied to this dark moment and history will judge the justices who turned their backs on our very own founding principles as a nation of immigrants.
“This is yet another somber reminder of what’s at stake ahead of the DACA ruling the Supreme Court is expected to deliver later this year. While the House has already acted to deliver much-needed relief to approximately 800,000 young immigrants, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans refuse to do their jobs. We cannot rely on this conservative Supreme Court to do what’s right for our community, which is why in these uncertain times Latino Victory calls on Senate Republicans to put partisan politics aside and protect these hardworking young immigrants before the Supreme Court decides their fate.”
