Washington, D.C. —Amid anti-immigrant sentiments from leading Republican presidential candidates, most recently former Florida Governor Jeb Bush’s assertion of “anchor babies” and derisive comments about the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, the Latino Victory Project condemns the vitriol that has seeped into the national discussion on immigration.
“It is unbelievable that the former governor of one of the most diverse states in the country could be so out of touch, and it is even more unbelievable that the Republican field is following Donald Trump’s lead on immigration policy. Hard working immigrants have always been the foundation of this country, and we will not stand for candidates that support policies of division,” said Latino Victory Project President Cristóbal Alex. “We need leaders that will pursue policies that will keep the American Dream alive, which includes inclusive economic policies, expanding educational opportunities, and reforming our immigration system so that it is just and humane.”
