WASHINGTON – Today, former President Donald Trump appeared in court to face criminal charges. Trump’s arrest is historic, marking the first time that a former U.S. president has been indicted.
Latino Victory Fund Board Chairman Luis A. Miranda, Jr. released the following statement:
“After years of scandal, demagoguery, and corruption, Donald Trump is right where he belongs – facing accountability in court.
“For decades, Donald Trump has served as one of the most incendiary opponents of Latinos and people of color across the globe. His volatile tenure in office was tainted and tarnished by his unwarranted attacks on immigrants, his constant dog-whistle racism against non-white communities, and his China Virus vitriol was abhorrent and atrocious for Asian American communities.
“This is the first of several ongoing investigations into the former president to bring charges against him, but there remains a long road ahead to eradicate the corruption and divisiveness Donald Trump empowered throughout his presidency. Today’s events prove that no one, not even a former U.S. president, is above the law.
“Justice Juan Manuel Merchan is an experienced Latino judge with 16 years on the bench. We have full faith that he will preside over a fair trial. While the law catches up with this disgraced ex-president, Latino Victory Fund will continue to confront Trumpism in every community and every corner of this nation.”
